Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun Synopsis

Finlay Donovan, a single mom and author, finds herself in a mess when she and her nanny, Vero, accidentally destroy a luxury car while saving Finlay’s ex-husband’s life. The Russian mob buys the car, and now Finlay owes them. The mob boss, Feliks, wants Finlay to identify a contract killer before the police do, but the killer could be an officer. To escape the mob’s clutches, Finlay and Vero attend a citizen’s police academy led by a hot cop named Nick, using their time there to find the real killer. They face challenges including spies, past traumas, and parenthood while undergoing firearm and forensic training and hands-on research.

Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun Book Review

Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun is the third book in the Finlay Donovan series. This one felt like the weakest link of the three Finlay Donovan books. I miss the other two books when Finn and Vero traveled all over the place. We got a better sense of their settings, and my heart raced whenever they were on a crucial mission. Such as the ending of Finlay Donovan Knocks ‘Em Dead, and they were in the middle of the shoot out at the Westover home.

Reading about them mainly only in the police academy in this book was a letdown. But I’m happy the ending foreshadowed what I can only hope is another installment in the series. As always, too, Finn’s POV as a single mom was the perfect comedic relief, and I adore her kids and their energy. I’m also sus of Vero, and I’ve been sus of Vero since book 2. Maybe even book 1, but the feeling wasn’t powerful.

Also, my god Finlay. In the words of Sylvia, please get together with Nick already. The tension is so strong and I know they got together towards the end of this book, but I hope the next book has more relationship growth for them. If Steven truly thinks he’s going to win Finlay back, I will slap him through the book.
