Finlay Donovan Knocks ‘Em Dead Synopsis

Finlay Donovan is a single mother of two who is struggling to write her next novel and make ends meet. She relies on her live-in nanny, Vero, to help take care of her children while she works. However, her peaceful existence is disrupted when she discovers that someone is trying to kill her ex-husband, Steven. Despite their past, Steven is a good father to their children, and Finlay is determined to protect him. This leads her down a dangerous path filled with soccer moms who are more than they seem, and the Russian mob.

As she works to protect her family and ex-husband, Finlay finds herself bending the law and becoming more involved with Detective Nick Anthony. While she is attracted to him, her first priority is keeping her family safe. With her deadline for her next book approaching and the threats against her ex-husband increasing, Finlay is pushed to her limits. She must find a way to keep her family alive and solve the mystery before it’s too late.

Finlay Donovan Knocks ‘Em Dead Book Review

Finlay Donovan Knocks ‘Em Dead is the second installment in the Finlay Donovan series. Finlay and Vero knock it out of the park again with their crazy adventures tied into Finlay’s single mom life. Finlay always manages to find herself tied into some kind of scheme, and this book focuses on her trying to keep her ex husband, Steven, and family safe. As expected, Steven doesn’t believe a word Finlay says about him being in danger until the last possible second. He thinks Finlay is trying to sabotage his time with Delia and Zach, until he starts getting shot at towards the end of the book.

What I love about this book, and series as a whole, is how Finlay’s book plots tie into the actually story. We get a taste of how things will ultimately play out, but we don’t know the exact semantics until reading the full book. I usually don’t enjoy books like that, a book within a book vibe, but this one has the right balacne b between the two and doesn’t leave the reader confused or Usually when someone tells me they couldn’t get into a series, it gets stuck in my head and I start to find myself liking it less and less. Someone told me that for Finlay Donovan and I’m happy to say I still adore this series with my whole heart. It’s just so ridiculously funny to me with how it ties into her single mom life and dating and how her books are based on what happens in her life. Funny in a good way, not a ‘it’s so bad it’s laughable’ kind of way. Also there were still some moments of intense heart racing and such which I’m in love with of course.
