The Housemaid’s Secret Synopsis

The story follows Millie who takes a job as a cleaner and cook for the wealthy Garrick family. Despite being warned not to enter the guest bedroom by Douglas Garrick, the husband, the woman becomes increasingly suspicious of Mrs. Garrick’s well-being. When she can no longer resist her curiosity and decides to knock on the door, she discovers a dark secret that changes everything. Mrs. Garrick is gravely ill and has been kept locked up in the guest bedroom.

Determined to seek justice for Mrs. Garrick, the woman decides to protect her at all costs. She makes a promise to herself that she will keep her own secrets safe while seeking revenge against Douglas Garrick for his wrongdoing. As the woman’s plan for revenge unfolds, she delves deeper into the Garrick family’s secrets and must confront the consequences of her actions. She must choose between protecting Mrs. Garrick and keeping her own secrets safe or revealing the truth and risking everything she has worked so hard for.

The Housemaid’s Secret Review

Freida McFadden is quickly becoming my favorite thriller author. Her stories are not too long and there’s enough twists to keep you engaged throughout the whole book. We’re introduced to a small group of characters and nothing is over the top or overwhelming. ALSO she always finds a way to tie it back to Millie in the end. Yes, Marybeth ultimately kills both Russell and Wendy, but Millie provides the heart medicine. Brock is an idiot. Enzo, we love Enzo! Although he probably could’ve not stalked for three months when he knows about Millie’s past. And honestly, I feel bad for Douglas. He wanted a wife and a family, instead he got Wendy. Good for him changing his will at the last minute. That felt like a CEO mindset.
